We can also look at is a sacred activity, as a manifestation of the miracle of being alive. What we practice in the zendo is the “heart of the matter,” the core that needs to express itself in everything we do. Zazen (meditation) is not just sitting cross-legged on a pillow; it is growing a garden, getting to work on time, getting the job done.”

–John Daido Loori in his essay “The Sacredness of Work” in Mindfulness and Meaningful Work: Explorations in Right Livelihood
