“We Improve…Through Trial and Error”

the-profitable-retailer.jpg“As Profitable Retailers, we …succeed because we test, we fail, we learn, and we improve. We will improve our stores by doing more imperfect tests…”

“To be innovative, we must learn to live with less than ideal situations in our tests. If we wait for perfect conditions, we may miss our window of opportunity. Imperfect tests mean we may use fixtures that don’t match, signage that’s less than ideal, trainings created on the fly, and measurements that may be challenging to extrapolate. We must remember we are often testing a concept and not necessarily the execution. Validate the concept or idea and then you can execute the solution appropriately.”

Doug Fleener, in The Profitable Retailer: 56 surprisingly simple and effective lessons to boost your sales and profits (2005).
